Unmapped Gems is a travel log of the places people who live somewhere keep going back to — restaurants, corners, viewpoints, whole neighbourhoods. Every entry starts with a traveller who went, and I write the honest version: what it costs, when it’s quiet, what to skip.

Why this exists

Somewhere along the way I noticed that the trips I actually remembered weren’t built around the famous places. They were the taverna with no sign under a market, the bar three people fit into, the stone house inside a village wall — the places locals go back to and nobody had written up. Finding them was the best part of travelling, and also the slowest: hours of reading, cross-checking, asking around, and being wrong more than once.

This site is that effort, kept. Every entry is a place found under the radar and checked to be real — the address, the rating, the fact that it’s still open — before it goes on the map. The ones that didn’t survive that check aren’t here.

The hope is that it grows the way it started: one traveller passing a gem on to the next. If you have one, send it in.
