Hanga Roa
The only town on Rapa Nui, a low scatter of buildings between the airstrip and the ocean with moai sites a short drive in every direction.
Hanga Roa is the only town on Rapa Nui, home to nearly the entire island's population and its one airport, so almost every trip to see the moai starts and ends here. It's small enough to walk end to end in under an hour, with a handful of the island's ceremonial platforms inside town limits rather than out on sites that need a drive.
