Udaipur is built around Lake Pichola, and the City Palace complex on its eastern shore still dominates the skyline the way it did under the Mewar dynasty that built it. The old town's narrow lanes climb away from the water in both directions, thick with havelis converted into guesthouses and rooftop cafes angled for the same lake view.
