Corvara
A Ladin-speaking village in the Dolomites, sitting on the Sella Ronda circuit with the whole of Dolomiti Superski on one pass.
Corvara is one of the Alta Badia villages in South Tyrol, where the first language for much of the population is Ladin rather than Italian or German — a Rhaeto-Romance language spoken in a handful of Dolomite valleys and nowhere else.
For skiers, the draw is the position. Corvara sits directly on the Sella Ronda, the circuit that laps the Sella massif on lifts and pistes in a single day, and its lift pass covers Dolomiti Superski — twelve areas and well over a thousand kilometres of piste, though not all of it linked. The skiing is mostly intermediate cruising with the Dolomites' vertical rock walls as the backdrop, which is the actual reason to ski here rather than somewhere with better snow records.
South Tyrolean mountain huts also take food more seriously than the Alpine average, which changes what lunch means.
