Matsuyama

A castle town on Shikoku built its whole identity around the oldest onsen in the country.

Matsuyama Castle gets the postcard, but the town's actual centre of gravity is Dogo — the onsen district that's been drawing bathers since before the castle existed, and hasn't needed to change much since.
