Eliza Thompson House takes its name from the widow who built it in 1847, on West Jones Street — often called the prettiest street in Savannah's historic district, and one that carries no through traffic. The main house and a converted carriage house wrap a brick courtyard shaded by old oaks, where breakfast is served most mornings when weather allows.
It runs as a proper bed-and-breakfast rather than a boutique hotel dressed up as one: a fixed number of individually decorated rooms, a host on-site, and the kind of quiet that comes from being one residential block off the busier squares tourists cluster around.
Savannah's historic district rewards walking, and this is a good base for it — close enough to Forsyth Park and the river to cover on foot, far enough off the main tour routes that the street itself stays calm.
