Getting there
On Westwood Boulevard south of UCLA, in an unremarkable strip mall with parking out front

Why it’s in the log

Emporium Thai sits in one of the small storefronts along Westwood Boulevard, the kind of address that gives nothing away from outside. Inside, the menu leans Southern Thai rather than the sweeter, more familiar dishes most LA Thai spots default to — heavier on funk and heat.

The crab omelette (khai jeaw poo) is the dish regulars order, a loose, savory omelette folded around lump crab and served over rice. It's not on every table, but it's the thing that keeps people driving across town for a strip-mall lunch.

Go at lunch on a weekday if a quiet room matters — dinner service pulls a steady crowd of UCLA-area regulars who clearly already know the menu.

Outstanding Thai food. The Phuket wings are a must-try! Really great atmosphere too, which is great for anything ranging from casual lunches to romantic dinners. They have a cool wall showing all of the celebrities that have dined here.…
