Why it’s in the log
Waterlooplein has been a market since the 19th century, and it's the oldest flea market still running in the Netherlands. Around 300 stalls spread across the square: leather jackets, vintage clothing, records, secondhand bikes, jewellery, and the kind of odds and ends that don't fit any category until you're holding one.
Prices are genuinely low compared to the vintage shops elsewhere in the city, and haggling is normal rather than awkward. It rewards patience — not every stall is essential, but the ones worth stopping at are usually a few tables past the tourist-facing souvenir stalls near the entrance.
Not every stall opens right at 9:30, so a slow start to the morning is normal rather than a sign you've come on a bad day. Closed Sundays, which catches people out.
