Jinhae
A naval port on Korea's south coast whose cherry blossom festival opens up the navy's own grounds every April.
Jinhae, now a district of Changwon, is home to a naval base and the Korea Naval Academy, and every April to the Jinhae Gunhangje Festival, Korea's best-known cherry blossom festival. It began in 1963, growing out of a memorial service held at the first statue of Admiral Yi Sun-sin in Korea, erected here in 1952, and runs for about ten days from 1 April.
The places to walk are the Yeojwacheon stream, Gyeonghwa Station, Anmin Hill and Jangboksan Park. During the festival, parts of the naval academy and naval base, normally closed to the public, are opened. The festival was suspended from 2020 to 2022.
