Buenos Aires
Recoleta's French-style mansions and a steakhouse culture that never adopted small portions.
Recoleta and Palermo still carry the money that built Buenos Aires a century ago — Beaux-Arts townhouses along Avenida Alvear, a cemetery with its own tourist queue. San Telmo, a few kilometres south, is the older and scruffier version of the same city, tango bars included. Go hungry: the asado culture here treats a normal-sized steak as a starter.
