San Pedro de Atacama
A low adobe town ringed by salt flats, geysers and volcanoes in the driest non-polar desert on earth.
San Pedro is a low grid of adobe buildings at 2,400 meters, mostly a base for trips into the Atacama salt flat, the El Tatio geysers and Valle de la Luna rather than a destination in itself. Nights get cold fast once the sun drops behind the volcanoes, even after a day that topped 25°C.
