Al Garghet is built on stilts over one of the irrigation canals in the Parco Agricolo Sud Milano, the belt of working farmland still inside the city limits — a genuine surprise for a restaurant a car ride from the Duomo. The building dates to the 1950s and looks it, lanterns and all, closer to a countryside trattoria than anything urban.
The menu sticks to Milanese standards — risotto, ossobuco, the usual — cooked at a scale that's kept the place going for decades and pulled in over seven thousand reviews without turning it into a tourist stop.
It's a dinner-as-destination kind of place: go for the setting as much as the food, and go by car, since it's well outside the city's walkable center.
