Alley runs out of a small room on Fleminginkatu in Kallio, Helsinki's dense residential district north of the centre, and reads less like a restaurant than a couple cooking for friends who happen to be paying. Google lists it as "Restaurant Alley," but the people running it just call it Alley.
The plates are straightforward bistro cooking — nothing chasing a trend — paired with a small, carefully chosen wine list rather than a long one. With barely 150 reviews for a 4.8 average, it's the kind of place that's still mostly known by word of mouth in the neighbourhood.
Kallio isn't the part of Helsinki most visitors reach on a short trip, which is exactly why this is worth the walk from the centre.
