Wino
- Getting there
- In Kallio, close to Sörnäinen metro station
Why it’s in the log
Wino is a small natural-wine bar and restaurant on Fleminginkatu in Kallio, the same working-class-turned-hip district that Alley and several of Helsinki's other newer bistros call home. The room holds maybe half a dozen tables, and the atmosphere runs closer to a record-shop hangout than a restaurant — funk on the stereo, a short but well-chosen wine list.
The food is simple and seasonal, built to sit alongside the wine rather than headline the menu on its own. Reviewers consistently note the value: cooking and pours that would carry a much higher price tag in the city centre.
Kallio's a short tram or metro ride from central Helsinki, and Wino is an easy pairing with a night that also takes in Alley or one of the district's other small bars.
“A tiny room that outperforms restaurants twice the price — go for the natural wine list as much as the food.”
