Why it’s in the log
Chitose is an okonomiyaki canteen in Nishinari, a working-class district in southern Osaka that most visitors skip entirely — which is exactly why the cooking here hasn't been adjusted for tourists.
The okonomiyaki is thick, Osaka-style, and cooked on a hotplate right in front of you rather than in a back kitchen — part of the draw is watching it get flipped and finished a few feet away.
It's a proper neighbourhood canteen rather than a polished restaurant; go for the food, not the setting, and expect to eat elbow to elbow with regulars.
“No pretense here — a proper Nishinari canteen, and the okonomiyaki is cooked right in front of you on the hotplate.”
