Why it’s in the log
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child opened at the Palace Theatre on 30 July 2016. It picks up nineteen years after the last book, with Harry working at the Ministry of Magic and his son Albus starting at Hogwarts. For ten years it was played in two parts, usually seen on the same day or on two consecutive evenings. In 2017 it won nine Olivier Awards, a record.
The two-part version closed on 20 September 2026. Since 9 October 2026 the Palace has played a new one-part version, two hours and 55 minutes with one interval, and booking runs to June 2027. The theatre is worth seeing for itself: a red-brick Victorian building on Cambridge Circus, opened in 1891 as Richard D'Oyly Carte's Royal English Opera House.
