Why it’s in the log
The site has been a house since the early 19th century — Heath Lodge, then a property bought by the Schröder banking family in 1864, later a hotel called Savill Court. Arora Group bought it in 2014 and rebuilt it almost entirely, keeping the Jacobean-style exterior but replacing most of what was behind it, before reopening as Fairmont Windsor Park in 2022. It's not a former royal residence, which is why it reads as a grand country hotel rather than a palace proper — but it sits right against the Crown Estate land that is Windsor Great Park.
Forty acres of grounds and a lake come with it, along with the kind of spa and multiple-restaurant program a new build makes easier to fit in than a genuine historic conversion would. Windsor Castle itself is a short drive away, close enough for a half-day visit without making the hotel feel like a base camp for it.
Better suited to a country-house stay that happens to be near Windsor than a walk-everywhere trip into the town — a car or a taxi is the practical way to move between the two.
