- Getting there
- A few minutes' drive or walk from Flåm's train station and harbour, on the fjord road toward Aurland.
Why it’s in the log
Fretheim Fjordhytter sits directly on the Aurlandsfjord shoreline, in traditional wooden cabins rather than a hotel block — the water is close enough to launch a kayak or rowboat straight from the cabin. Flåm itself gets busy with cruise and railway day-trippers; staying on the water just outside the village centre keeps the fjord as the main event rather than a backdrop glimpsed from a train window.
Mornings are the payoff. The fjord is often glass-still before the wind picks up and before the day's boat traffic starts, which is the best time to be out on it rather than just looking at it.
“You step out of the cabin and you're already on the fjord — no drive, no path down to a viewpoint, it's just there.”
