Why it’s in the log
La Piojera has been pouring drinks in Barrio Yungay since 1896, and it looks it — long communal tables, sawdust-worn floors, walls covered in decades of photos and memorabilia. It's the bar most commonly credited with inventing the terremoto ("earthquake"), a sweet pipeño-wine cocktail usually topped with a scoop of pineapple ice cream, even though plenty of other bars around Santiago now pour their own version.
At 4.3 stars over more than 7,300 reviews, it's well past being a secret — expect a line most nights — but it's still where Santiaguinos actually go, not a version built for tour groups.
