Why it’s in the log
The Old Market Hall opened on 1 August 1889, designed by Gustaf Nyström after he had studied market halls on his travels around Europe. In the early 1900s it was repeatedly threatened with demolition, and moving it was considered; it survived, and reopened in 2014 after a year and a half closed for renovation.
Inside are about 25 traders and cafés, mostly food — and one of the smallest shops of Alko, the state liquor chain. It's next to the Market Square on the harbour, so do both.
