Why it’s in the log
The palazzo was built in the mid-19th century for a noble Salento family and stood empty for years before its current owners restored it as a small guesthouse rather than a conventional hotel. The restoration kept the building's decay visible in places — patched plaster, bare stone — instead of polishing every surface to match a typical luxury renovation.
It functions as much as a private art collection as a place to sleep: contemporary work is hung through the public rooms and corridors, and the palazzo hosts an annual summer festival that draws an art and design crowd rather than typical Puglia beach tourists. The garden and pool sit behind the palazzo's formal facade, out of view from the street.
Gagliano del Capo itself is a plain working town at the very bottom of the Salento peninsula — the palazzo, not the town, is the reason to come, with the grottoes and cliffs at Santa Maria di Leuca a short drive away.
