Nether Westcote barely amounts to a hamlet — a scattering of stone cottages on a hillside a few miles from Stow-on-the-Wold — which makes the Feathered Nest an odd fit for the address until you're actually inside. Fires, low beams and a terrace looking straight down the valley are what you'd expect from a Cotswolds inn; the kitchen, which carries a Michelin Plate listing and several AA rosettes, is a level above what most villages this size ever get.
Rooms are individually decorated rather than uniform, and the pace is deliberately slow — this is a place built for a night or two, not a drive-by lunch, though the bar and terrace are open to non-residents for food and a drink.
Worth booking meals and rooms together if the kitchen's the draw; it's a small dining room and fills up on weekends well ahead of time.
