A patchwork of honey-stone villages where the best kitchens are often attached to the only pub in town.
The Cotswolds span parts of six counties and hundreds of villages built from the same warm limestone, which is why the whole area reads as one place despite the sprawl. Its best food is rarely in the market towns everyone drives through — it's in one-pub hamlets like Nether Westcote, which barely counts as a village, where the kitchen has to be good enough on its own to justify the drive.
