England's largest historic county, big enough that "Yorkshire" means at least four different landscapes depending which corner you're in.
Moorland, dales, coast and industrial cities that have little in common with each other all answer to the same county name. Harome, a single-street village near Helmsley on the edge of the North York Moors, is a fair example of what the quiet end of the county looks like: one pub, one green, and — improbably for somewhere this small — cooking good enough that people drive out from York for it.
