Why it’s in the log
Cağaloğlu Hamam opened in 1741, commissioned by Sultan Mahmud I as the last major hammam built during the Ottoman era, and the marble interior — vaulted domes, a central heated slab, separate men's and women's sections — has been running continuously since.
It's a working hammam rather than a museum piece: scrub-and-massage service on the marble göbek taşı, steam rooms, the full traditional format rather than a modernized spa version of it. The building itself has drawn visitors on reputation alone for nearly three centuries, including a long list of historical figures.
Book the traditional scrub-and-massage package rather than just the entry ticket — the marble room alone is worth seeing, but the full service is the actual experience.
