The half-vanished trolley, with an owl cage, at King's CrossPlatform 9¾
- Best time
- Early morning, before the queue for photos builds
- Getting there
- King's Cross St Pancras Underground station
Why it’s in the log
In the books, the Hogwarts Express leaves from a platform between 9 and 10 at King's Cross, through a wall you walk straight into. The films used the real station but shot those scenes between platforms 4 and 5.
Since 2012 the station has had its own Platform 9¾ in the western concourse: a sign on the wall and half a luggage trolley sunk into the brickwork, with a Harry Potter shop beside it. Taking your own photo is free; staff will lend you a house scarf and flick it up as you "run" at the wall. There is usually a queue, and the shop sells a professional picture if you want one.
