Why it’s in the log
When the main Sagano Line was rerouted, it left its old track along the Hozu River gorge west of Kyoto. The Sagano Scenic Railway runs on it, from Torokko Saga in Arashiyama to the Kameoka basin, in torokko carriages — the Japanese word, from the English "truck", first meant mine cars.
It's closed on Wednesdays and through the winter. Many people ride it one way and come back down the gorge by boat.
