Voltes Residences occupies a restored stone house inside Mesta's medieval walls, a fortified mastic-trading village built by the Genoese and unlike anything on Chios's coast — narrow arched alleys, houses sharing walls, shade instead of sea views. Staying inside the walls rather than driving in for an afternoon is the difference between seeing the village and actually feeling it, especially once the day-trippers leave.
