Al Ustad Special Kebab
- Getting there
- A short walk from Al Fahidi, across the creek side of Al Hamriya
Why it’s in the log
Al Ustad Special Kebab has been grilling in the same Al Hamriya spot for decades, and it reads that way — plastic chairs, a low-key dining room, and photos on the wall from a much earlier version of Dubai. It's Iranian in style, built entirely around skewered meat over charcoal.
The menu is short on purpose: a handful of kebab options, bread, grilled tomato, rice. Nobody comes for variety. What keeps it going is consistency across a very long run of years, which is unusual in a city that turns restaurants over fast.
It's a dinner spot more than a lunch one — go when the grill's been running a while and the smoke has filled the room, and expect a wait on a weekend night.
“Smoky, no-frills, and the kind of place where the same waiters have clearly been there for years.”
