La Cueva took over a space that used to be a wine bar and turned it into something darker and smokier — a cocktail and mezcal den built for sitting a while, not passing through. The name means "the cave," and the lighting commits to it: candlelit, low-ceilinged, built for conversation rather than being seen.
Cocktails lean on mezcal as the base spirit more often than not, which fits the neighborhood, but the list isn't a one-note mezcal bar — there's range for people who want something else. Service is unhurried in the way a good late-night bar should be.
It's an easy stop after dinner on Hidalgo street, close enough to walk to from most of Centro.
